Curiosity was a dangerous thing, often leading you into troubling situations. The first memory of curiosity showing it's dark side was a few days before your fifteenth birthday. The day had started with your guardians forcing you to be social with others your own age. Deciding you had enough of being ignored by fellow peers you sulked away and began running. After sprinting until your leg ached in protest, you sat on the side of a curb, and listen to your uneven pants.

As your breaths became even, you took in your surroundings. This part of the neighborhood was silent and caused you to feel uneasy. The streets were clear of vehicles and sidewalks without any sign of life. With a bad feeling nagging you, your form sprung up and headed the direction you came. The fluttering of wings and the sound of whimpers broke the silence. Curious, you peeked your head over the rail on the sidewalk to find an arroyo, that went under the street you stood on. Again, the beating of wings echoed on the concrete of the channel.

Ignoring warnings about the deadly ditches, you climbed down the iron ladder leading down into the canal. The cries of pain grew louder as you got closer to the cave under the street that allowed water to go under the road. From within the dark cavern, a pair of violet eyes gleamed and were the only thing you could make out from the shadows. The fluttering grew frantic as you drew closer.

"I-I'm not going to hurt you" you murmured gently, trying to calm the unknown figure. The rustling of feathers began to die down but the tension in the air was still thick. The violet eyes followed your every movement as you inched closer, until the eyes towered above you. Raising a hand, shaky in anticipation, you reached out and your fingertips brushed against smooth feathers. The wings recoiled from your touch and a whimper was heard as the seemingly male figure attempted to spread his wings. Seeing something was preventing the wings from opening, you reached out again feeling something cold entangling the wings.

"Hold still" you commanded, beginning to untangle the unfamiliar substance trapping the sleek wings. Small humane cries came from the owner of the wings as you manage to get the metal like chains became loose. There was a thud as the metal fell to the floor, freeing his wings. Before you could exclaim, there was a burst of air, as the figure took off into the sky darkened by storm clouds. Happy to have helped, you began to head back to the ladder, when the sound of rushing water reached your ears. Turning around for a brief second, you found waves of gray water heading your way. Without a second thought you ran as fast as you could to your escape route.

Before you could reach your escape, freezing water lapped your ankles, sweeping you off your feet. Unable to grab anything to prevent you from floating away, you began to struggle to get your head above water. Unable to get to the surface, you couldn't even scream. Your vision blurred and you could feel yourself give into the darkness.  Barley conscious, you could barley detect your shoulders being lifted out of the murky water and dropped ungracefully on the cold ground.

"Idiot" a voice muttered, sounding far from you. The voice continued drifting further away from you until you felt air begin forced into your lungs, causing a sickening feeling of water coming up. Taking you first breath of air, you turned your head to the side and coughed up gray water. Still feeling your lungs searing, you allowed yourself to look at the figure above you.

"Did you-" you started with a raspy voice.

"I hope you don't count mouth to mouth as a first kiss" he told you with a smirk. A blush blazed across your face at the realization that the man above had given you the kiss of life. Trying to sit up, your head pounded in protest, causing your vision to blur once again. Before you completely black out, you watch black wings emerge from his back.

*********************************************

Sharp pain shot across the right side of your body, causing you eyes to open in surprise. You found yourself sprawled across the floor next to your bed. The pounding in your head was still apparent as you sat up and found yourself in the familiar surroundings of your bedroom. The sun was setting as you looked out the opened window above your bed. Trying to calm your heart rate, you puzzled over how you got back here. The last thing you could conjure up was black wings sprouting from the stranger.

Peeking your head out the window, you looked left to right, looking any sign of the winged male. You found nothing. A burning feeling still overtook you whenever you took a breath, reminding you of the near death experience.

"Thank you guardian angel" you whispered. A pair of boot appeared in front of you face causing you to jolt.

"Not an angel I'm afraid" a voice from the roof said. "Your thinking of my cheery counterpart. I am a fallen." He landed on your windowsill and lowered his face to yours.

"Thank you anyway" you said, finding yourself memorized by his eyes.

"We're even now" he smirked. "You untangled my wings and I saved you from drowning. Not bad for a human, your name? I am called Luciano" Deciding to make himself comfortable, he sat down next to you.

"(Name)" you told him. "What do you mean fallen" you asked, eyeing his black wings.

"I was... an angel" he started. "But heaven... It was boring, bland, and everything went the way you wanted. Hell on the other hand was lonesome. I shunned both for Earth, you human are so unpredictable."

"No noticed a boy with black wings" noting the noticeable wings sprouting out of his back. A thoughtful expression crossed his face.

"I seem to be invisible to everyone" he started. "I've been under that road for days now, unable to escape because before I got here, I was imprisoned by chains so I couldn't cause trouble."

"And that's when I found you" you said connecting the dots.

"Your the first one I know who could see me" he told you, happiness visible in his eyes. Before you could question why he was joyful, you both stiffened at the sound of your guardians car pulling into the driveway. "I should head off, your parents will think your insane, talking to thin air." Seeing him crouching and preparing to fly away. In a panic you grabbed his arm preventing him from leaving.

"Will I see you again?" You asked. He smirked pressed his lips to yours. You stiffen but leaned into the warm lips, allowing yourself to be lost in his warmth.

"Of course" he whispered, breaking the kiss. "This is only the beginning (Name)." With that he jumped from you window, his black wings disappearing into the setting sun.

This is a really nice idea :3
I know it's a contest entry, but I'm wondering if you maybe think about continuing it? Just asking :3
Also, I'd like to ask you something. You work alone, right? I mean, you write and proofread your pieces by yourself? I've noticed a few small mistakes here and there, things that happen when you read over it quickly. (I've been editing literature for others for years, hence I noticed such small things instantly)
You don't have an "Editor" or "Proofreader", do you?
